(11-13)If Nikola Tesla were a superhero, he would be "Electricity Man." He completely changed theelectricity technology and made science fiction into science fact.Tesla was born in 1856, in what is now Croatia. He loved science, and his schooling and research tookhim to Austria, Prague, and Budapest. At age 28, he went to the U.S. with nothing but a head filled withnew ideas. He soon met Thomas Edison and went to work for him. At that time, Edison's company wasusing "direct current" (DC) electricity, and Tesla came up with a new idea: replacing the inefficient DCsetup with "alternating current" (AC). Edison, however, didn’t take this idea too seriously and evenchallenged Tesla to develop his idea into a real invention with a $50,000 reward. It only took Tesla a few months to show Edison his successful results, but Edison told Tesla that hewas just joking and refused to give him the reward. Shortly afterward, Tesla left Edison's company. Theproblem with Edison's DC electricity setup was that it only flowed in one direction, but Tesla's AC changeddirection 50 to 60 times a second. There were a lot of other technical reasons making them different, butbasically, Edison's setup required power stations to be built every 2 miles and made it a burden to sendpower far away. Tesla's AC changed that. After leaving Edison’s company, Tesla got support from George Westinghouse. Westinghouse saw thepotential in AC and decided to spread it across the entire United States. Eventually, Tesla won this businesswar against Edison. His most notable victory came in 1896, when his AC invention made use of the powerof Niagara Falls and sent electricity all the way to Buffalo, New York.*SOURCE: https://www.grunge.com/102523/nikola-teslas-unbelievable-real-life-story/*completely
